Preliminary Exercise: Camera Movement Videos
The objective of the assignment Activity 3: Camera Movement Video was for students to be able to demonstrate their understanding of storyboarding by applying camerawork and camera movement techniques in a video production. In the assignment, we had to create 6 videos that were each 3-7 seconds long that demonstrated different camera movement techniques. The 6 different camera movement techniques we chose to demonstrate were Static, Random Movement, Tracking, Tilt, Pan, Zoom in. Me and my teammate, Summa.W, worked on completing the assignment. Summa.W filmed 3 out of the 6 videos, The ones she picked were pan, tilt, and zoom in. She completed the video using an iPhone 11. I completed the other 3 videos and focused on the technique's random movement, static, and tracking, I completed these videos using an iPhone 11.
The camera technique that was most uncomplicated to demonstrate was tracking. This is because when finding an object and seeing its movements, you just need to follow it's every movement with the camera. The camera technique that was most difficult to demonstrate was random movement. This is because when trying to have random movement around an object while still having a center focus on the object is a little bit difficult. Furthermore, working on this video production exercise with my group went really well and during the whole production exercise, we communicated and had an understanding of what each other was doing and an understanding of the assignment. In the creation of the videos an iPhone 11 was used for all 6 of the videos.
Video Examples
https://youtu.be/YjVniodQLYA - Static Movement: When the shot has no camera movement. In the video you see a masked person turning around, staring into the camera. The shot is very still , meaning it has no camera movement.
https://youtu.be/miQsprli0LM - Tracking Movement: Any shot that physically moves the camera and tracks the movement of an object. In the video you see a masked person slow walking in a building. The camera is following with them as they walk.
https://youtu.be/rsirL778mPU - Random Movement: A shot that has no specific movement and shown via a handheld shot. In the video you see the point of view from the mask and it’s shown randomly looking around. In the video there’s no specific movement to follow. Therefore, random movement.
