Preliminary Exercise: What is editing in film?

Editing in film is the process of choosing, manipulating and arranging images and sounds in the post- production of a film. The purpose of editing is it creates audience engagement, contributes to character development, and helps the film flow smoother. The person responsible for editing the films is called the film editor. The film editor edits raw film footage for all types of projects. Film Editors edit and arrange shots in a very meaningful and tedious sequence to show the messages that are trying to be shown in the film. Film editors also collaborate with sound and sound effect editors and also cinematographers as well. This helps with making sure all communication on the film editing is clear.  A very famous Film editor is Jeffrey Ford . Jeffery Ford is known for many films that he has edited. But two of his most popular are Captain America: Civil War (2016) and The Avengers (2012).

Lighting in film is important because it creates an atmosphere, visual mood, and a sense of meaning for the audience. It can also help tell the tone of a film and give a more in depth understanding to the audience about certain scenes. When it comes to lighting, there are many different type of techniques. Some of them being: Low-key lighting, Back-lighting, Fill Lighting, High-Key lighting, Side-lighting, and Natural film lighting. The most popular lighting techniques in the film industry are Key light, Fill light, and backlight. Preliminary Exercise: Camera Movement Videos

          The objective of the assignment  Activity 3: Camera Movement Video was for students to be able to demonstrate their understanding of storyboarding by applying camerawork  and camera movement techniques in a video production.  In the assignment, we had to create 6 videos that were each 3-7 seconds long that demonstrated different camera movement techniques. The 6 different camera movement techniques we chose to demonstrate were Static, Random Movement, Tracking, Tilt, Pan, Zoom in.  Me and my teammate, Summa.W, worked on completing the assignment. Summa.W filmed 3 out of the 6 videos, The ones she picked were pan, tilt, and zoom in. She completed the video using an iPhone 11. Preliminary Exercise: Camera Movement Video Storyboard

                      In this assignment the objective was to be able to discuss the key concepts of media studies and apply the key concepts of camera movement, shot sizes, angles, framing, and elements of mise en scene in preparation for our opening film sequence. After analyzing and studying these concepts and techniques, we were instructed to create a storyboard with the different camera movement shots. The different camera movement shots we worked on were: Static shot, Random Movement, Pan Shot, Tilt, Zoom in, Zoom out, Tracking, Trucking, Push in. When completing this assignment me and my teammate created images with an action to describe what the picture was showing. At the end of this assignment I learned the different Camera Movement techniques and was able to illustrate what those selected Camera Movements looked like.
