Preliminary Exercise: Introduction to camera framing and camera composition PowerPoint: Camera Composition

 


       In this lesson the main goal was to be able to study and analyze camera composition. In this assignment we showed that we could classify and identify the different camera composition shots. Camera composition is the arrangement of visual information within a cameras frame. Camera composition helps viewers in seeing a three-dimensional world on a two-dimensional screen. Directors use camera composition to show a further understanding on the film.  In this assignment we were told to create a PowerPoint and find the examples of the different scenes in movies that are the different camera composition shots.

        In this assignment we learned to understand media languages from different viewpoints. We also further got a better understanding on how camera composition helps the viewer of the film see the film in a different perspective and get a better understanding on it.  At the end of the assignment my team was able to properly explain and identify the following camera composition shots which are: The Rule of Thirds Shot #1, Symmetry Shot #2, Asymmetry Shot #3, Point Shot #4, Leading lines Shot #5, Shapes Shot #6, Deep Focus Shot #7, Shallow Focus (Foreground In Focus and background Out-of-Focus Shot) or Shallow Focus (Background In Focus and foreground Out-of-Focus Shot) #8. On this assignment 3 students worked on creating it. Summa. W, Aleymar. N, and me (Alivia. C).

                 In the Exercise 1 the key concept of the lesson was for students to be able to recognize and define signs when analyzing media products for Denotative and connotative meanings.                         To me the importance of studying Media Studies is being able to analyze and understand the different types of media and what every media type means. In my free time I like to watch a lot of movies and TV shows, so being in Media Studies and being able to understand the different types of media could help me understand the different signs and dialogue that is being used. A favorite media product that I consume would be Netflix. Netflix has a purpose to entertain audiences of all different age groups and features all different genres. Preliminary Exercise: Camera Movement Videos

          The objective of the assignment  Activity 3: Camera Movement Video was for students to be able to demonstrate their understanding of storyboarding by applying camerawork  and camera movement techniques in a video production.  In the assignment, we had to create 6 videos that were each 3-7 seconds long that demonstrated different camera movement techniques. The 6 different camera movement techniques we chose to demonstrate were Static, Random Movement, Tracking, Tilt, Pan, Zoom in.  Me and my teammate, Summa.W, worked on completing the assignment. Summa.W filmed 3 out of the 6 videos, The ones she picked were pan, tilt, and zoom in. She completed the video using an iPhone 11.
