Preliminary Exercise: Introduction to storyboarding Camera angles
In this lesson the goal was to be able to understand and be able to analyze the main concepts of camera angles. In this lesson we further developed more knowledge about how media language is used and how the audience can respond/ interpret it. A camera angle identifies the precise position at which a video or movie camera is positioned in order to take a shot. This helps give a different experience and show the emotion of the characters. Directors use camera angles to help enhance the emotions and narrative in the film while also setting the overall mood of the film. During this assignment we were told to create a storyboard and apply the techniques that we had previously learned. Furthermore, we created an action line describing the shot to each shot that we had to illustrate.
In this assignment we learned to understand media languages from different viewpoints. We also further got a better understanding on how camera angles are used to show a deeper connection to the characters in the film and how using camera angles sets the overall tone/ mood for the film. At the end of the assignment my team was able to properly explain and identify the following camera angles which are: Overhead level, High angle, Low angle, Eye level, Aerial level, Dutch/Canted, Cowboy/Hip level, Knee level, and ground level. On this assignment 3 students worked on creating it. Summa. W, Aleymar. N, and me (Alivia. C).
