Research: Exercise 3: Setting

 

            The objective of this assignment was to work in groups of (2 or 3) to analyze the elements of setting, acting, costumes, hair, and makeup and did they support the genre of a film opening of their choice. Setting is the place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place. Setting is important in a film because it assist in clarifying a story's concepts and can help us in comprehending a character's worldview by showing us how they perceive their environment. Without setting in a film the film wouldn't be a film. By this I mean that without setting there isn't a standpoint in the film. The film wouldn't necessarily make sense and would be confusing. Setting plays a big role in a film and is an important element of Mise en Scene. 

        In this assignment I learned that setting has such a big role in a film and without it there wouldn't really be a film. The goal of the exercise was to understand and show that we understood the elements of Mise en Scene and could show that we did understand how Mise en Scene works. My team applying Mise en Scene to the opening clip of a film helped us get a better understanding of the film and also how setting plays a big role in creating a film. On this assignment 3 students worked on creating it. Summa. W, Aleymar. N, and me (Alivia. C).

                 In the Exercise 1 the key concept of the lesson was for students to be able to recognize and define signs when analyzing media products for Denotative and connotative meanings. Introduction to Media Blog : Welcome to My AICE Media Studies Blog!

                        To me the importance of studying Media Studies is being able to analyze and understand the different types of media and what every media type means. In my free time I like to watch a lot of movies and TV shows, so being in Media Studies and being able to understand the different types of media could help me understand the different signs and dialogue that is being used. A favorite media product that I consume would be Netflix. Netflix has a purpose to entertain audiences of all different age groups and features all different genres. Preliminary Exercise: Camera Movement Videos

          The objective of the assignment  Activity 3: Camera Movement Video was for students to be able to demonstrate their understanding of storyboarding by applying camerawork  and camera movement techniques in a video production.  In the assignment, we had to create 6 videos that were each 3-7 seconds long that demonstrated different camera movement techniques. The 6 different camera movement techniques we chose to demonstrate were Static, Random Movement, Tracking, Tilt, Pan, Zoom in.  Me and my teammate, Summa.W, worked on completing the assignment. Summa.W filmed 3 out of the 6 videos, The ones she picked were pan, tilt, and zoom in. She completed the video using an iPhone 11.
