Introduction to Media Blog : Welcome to My AICE Media Studies Blog!




                    To me the importance of studying Media Studies is being able to analyze and understand the different types of media and what every media type means. In my free time I like to watch a lot of movies and TV shows, so being in Media Studies and being able to understand the different types of media could help me understand the different signs and dialogue that is being used. A favorite media product that I consume would be Netflix. Netflix has a purpose to entertain audiences of all different age groups and features all different genres. Its features include watching shows or movies, it newly offers games to play that are based off their hit movies or TV shows. It could be engaging to my age group considering Netflix contains a lot of shows and movies that are targeted for my age group. Media Studies has plenty of interesting factors. 3 interesting factors that I find interesting would be, being able to learn all of the media products and media forms that are out there, analyzing and being able to understand films on a deeper level, and being able to create creative projects based on our analyzations on films.


                    The Media product that I will be documenting on my blog is going to be a opening film. The type of film that I would like to create would be a romantic horror film. What I mean by that is I want to create a romantic film where a couple gets married, goes on their honeymoon and the honeymoon takes a tragic and horrific turn. The target audience that I'm going for would be people ages 15-40. Considering the movie will have graphic scenes I don't want the audience to be to young and older people might find the movie interesting. I would create my film by getting good actors and having good props. Having good props could help engage an audience and more people to like the movie. My film would be ready to be released by Christmas. 


                    To create my film and document my blogging journey I would need to plan everything out and make sure that as I'm trying to make my film entertaining it also reaches the target audience that I'm aiming for. Another thing is would be making sure my film makes sense. What I mean by that is i don't want my film taking to many turns and having so many surprises to the point where it doesn't make sense. 2 other strategies I could use to make sure my film is successful is being creative and making sure the team I'm working with works well together. Having a team that works well together and all gives creative ideas would give the film more of a chance for success. These skills will help me be successful in completing component 1 blog with a high score because me making a good film and staying successful in class could help my blog have more posts and have more creativity. Me having a good and detailed blog with creativity could help me get a high score.

                 In the Exercise 1 the key concept of the lesson was for students to be able to recognize and define signs when analyzing media products for Denotative and connotative meanings. Another element we defined and learned about was semiotics. Semiotics is the study of signs and their meanings and the interpretation of messages in a text. Furthermore, in Exercise 1 we learned about someone named Roland Barthes. Roland Barthes was a French literacy theorist, and his theory stated that there are more than one way to read a code and that a text has multiple meanings. Preliminary Exercise: Camera Movement Videos

          The objective of the assignment  Activity 3: Camera Movement Video was for students to be able to demonstrate their understanding of storyboarding by applying camerawork  and camera movement techniques in a video production.  In the assignment, we had to create 6 videos that were each 3-7 seconds long that demonstrated different camera movement techniques. The 6 different camera movement techniques we chose to demonstrate were Static, Random Movement, Tracking, Tilt, Pan, Zoom in.  Me and my teammate, Summa.W, worked on completing the assignment. Summa.W filmed 3 out of the 6 videos, The ones she picked were pan, tilt, and zoom in. She completed the video using an iPhone 11.
